April 9, 2026
The Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise has officially declared 2026 as “Our Year of Intelligent Transformation.”
During the Modus Operandi / CEO Vusela session, Chief Executive Officer Dr Samson Sithole unveiled the organisation’s Digital Transformation Strategy, anchored on three defining principles:
Intelligent. Agile. Connected.
This declaration signals a decisive shift in how EWADE will operate, collaborate, and deliver impact across all projects and departments.

Be Like the Octopus
In a compelling and memorable metaphor, the CEO challenged staff to “be like the octopus” one of the most intelligent and adaptive creatures in nature.
With a central brain guiding eight semi-independent arms, the octopus embodies the balance between central intelligence and operational flexibility. Each arm can act independently yet remains fully aligned with the whole.
The message to EWADE was clear:
- Be adaptive.
- Be collaborative.
- Be resourceful.
- Be connected.
Transform and adjust with precision.
Just as the octopus coordinates multiple functions seamlessly, EWADE must ensure that every department and project site operates with autonomy while remaining aligned to the institution’s broader strategy.

Central Intelligence: Unified Data & Decision-Making
The Digital Transformation Strategy places emphasis on integrated information systems and real-time data.
Like the octopus’s central brain guiding its arms, EWADE’s leadership will anchor decision-making in unified, accurate and accessible data, enabling:
- Faster evidence-based decisions
- Improved resource allocation
- Increased operational efficiency
- Stronger institutional oversight
Digital tools will no longer be optional enhancements, but foundational systems supporting daily work.
Connected Arms: Departments Working as One
Each EWADE department was likened to an octopus arm, capable of independent action yet interconnected.
Field teams must respond swiftly to operational realities while maintaining alignment with headquarters through shared platforms and coordinated reporting systems.
Breaking down silos and strengthening cross-department collaboration will be central to this transformation.

Agile Processes: Removing Bottlenecks
The octopus is known for its manoeuvrability, able to compress its body and navigate complex spaces with ease.
Similarly, EWADE will streamline workflows, simplify approvals, and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks to maintain project momentum.
Agility, the CEO emphasized, is not about speed alone, it is about adaptability with discipline.
Digital Tools as Instruments of Excellence
Just as the octopus uses tools to solve complex challenges, EWADE will leverage digital platforms to:
- Enhance coordination
- Reduce paperwork
- Increase transparency
- Improve performance monitoring
From project dashboards to data visualization tools, digital integration will strengthen planning, reporting, and accountability across all sites.

A Direct Challenge to Staff
The CEO made it clear that digital transformation is not confined to ICT teams.
“Everyone has a role in the digital future.”
Staff were challenged to:
- Integrate digital tools into daily workflows
- Identify inefficiencies and propose solutions
- Share knowledge across departments
- Embrace innovation as a mindset
- Commit to continuous learning
Transformation, he emphasized, is cultural before it is technical.
The Official Declaration
Concluding the session, Dr Sithole formally declared:
“This is our moment to evolve, to become more agile, more connected, and more intelligent in everything we do. Like the octopus, we will adapt with precision, collaborate with purpose, and innovate with confidence.
The future starts now. Let’s make it extraordinary.”
He then officially launched the EWADE Digital Transformation Strategy.
What This Means for EWADE
The 2026 declaration is more than a theme. It is a strategic direction that aligns digital capability with EWADE’s core mandate of delivering water and agricultural development infrastructure efficiently and sustainably.
Intelligent systems.
Agile processes.
Connected teams.

The transformation begins now.
